Auburn Hires Hugh Freeze as Head Football Coach

Ole Miss Coach Resigns Amid Misconduct Allegations

Freeze's Success on the Field Overshadowed by Off-Field Concerns

Auburn University has hired Hugh Freeze as its new head football coach, a move that comes with both potential upside on the field and the risk of embarrassment off it.

Freeze, 54, was named the 31st head football coach in Auburn's 129-year history on Monday. He has 12 years of experience as a head coach at the collegiate level, compiling a record of 103-48. At Ole Miss, he led the Rebels to a 39-25 record from 2012 to 2016, including three bowl victories. He also had success at Liberty, going 34-15 in four seasons. However, Freeze's tenure at Ole Miss ended in disgrace in 2017 when he was fired for "personal misconduct." The allegations included making phone calls to escort services and misleading university officials about them.

Freeze's hiring has been met with mixed reactions. Some Auburn fans are excited about the potential for success on the field, while others are concerned about the potential for off-field controversies.
