Serbian athlete Lazar Dukic drowns during CrossFit Games swimming event
CrossFit has confirmed the death of four-time athlete Lazar Dukic, who was found dead in Marine Creek Lake after failing to finish the 2024 Games.
Dukic, 28, was competing in the swimming portion of the event when he disappeared. His body was discovered several hours later.
The cause of death is still under investigation, but CrossFit has said that it is "deeply saddened" by the loss of Dukic.
"Lazar was a beloved member of the CrossFit community and his death is a tragic loss," the organization said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time."
Dukic was a four-time CrossFit Games athlete and had placed as high as 10th in the competition. He was also a member of the Serbian national CrossFit team.
The CrossFit Games are an annual competition that tests athletes' fitness in a variety of events, including swimming, running, and weightlifting. The 2024 Games are being held in Fort Worth, Texas.
